History
Jott-Nyx Paranormal, based in Lancaster County, PA, was founded by Jerry and Melissa Keller. Both Jerry and Melissa experienced unexplained phenomena during their childhood and teenage years, which continued into adulthood and even into their workplaces. These experiences sparked a lifelong interest in the paranormal. As the popularity of paranormal investigation shows grew, Jerry and Melissa embraced the idea of becoming ghost hunters. One early morning, they gathered a group of friends and ventured to Chickies Hill, a local paranormal hotspot. The experience that morning left a lasting impression, particularly on Jerry and Melissa.
Using this initial experience as a catalyst, Jerry and Melissa began researching the paranormal to find explanations for their experiences—not only at Chickies Hill but throughout their lives. The more they learned, the more their curiosity grew. They began visiting locations known for paranormal activity, and with every visit, their fascination deepened. Over time, their investigations expanded beyond their local area to haunted locations along the entire East Coast. This growing passion ultimately inspired them to form their own paranormal investigation team.
Jott-Nyx Paranormal began with three members: Jerry, Melissa, and another friend. The name “Jott-Nyx” combines “JOTT,” an acronym for “Just One of Those Things,” with “Nyx,” the Greek goddess of the night. Together, the name represents “Just one of those things of the night.” Their first investigations as a team took place at the Haldeman Mansion in Bainbridge, PA. After a series of successful investigations, they were offered the role of Paranormal Directors for the venue. Jerry and Melissa moved into the Carriage House on the Haldeman Mansion property, becoming its resident paranormal investigators. This arrangement allowed Jott-Nyx to host events and public investigations, which were met with growing interest. The team’s success even attracted attention from prominent television personalities, further fueling the group’s growth while maintaining its core principles of integrity and honesty.
In 2020, while seeking new venues, Jott-Nyx reached out to Bube’s Brewery in Mount Joy, PA. Sam Allen, the brewery’s owner, was already familiar with Jott-Nyx through a local newspaper article about the group. Impressed by their work, Sam proposed a partnership. Sam envisioned using public paranormal investigations to support the brewery and hotel’s restoration efforts, which required significant funding. The proposal was timely, as Jott-Nyx’s relationship with the Haldeman Mansion was ending due to changes in the venue’s long-term plans. This partnership provided Jott-Nyx with a new home base and a unique opportunity to continue their work.
Since early 2020, Jott-Nyx Paranormal has been the resident team at Bube’s Brewery. Public investigations with the now 7-member team are held on select Saturday nights throughout the year. Additionally, Jott-Nyx offers private investigation reservations for individuals or groups interested in exploring the brewery’s paranormal activity. As the resident team, they also oversee investigations conducted by other paranormal teams at the venue.
